Development West Coast Visit

Te Aka welcomed Development West Coast and Tourism West Coast, marking an important step in sharing the retreat more widely and strengthening regional connections.

By early 2024, Te Aka was no longer just a completed build — it was operating, hosting and finding its place within the wider West Coast tourism landscape.

In February, representatives from Development West Coast visited the property. Their support and guidance throughout the journey of launching Te Aka has been significant. From practical advice to broader tourism insight, their mentoring helped shape how the retreat could be positioned and shared more effectively.

Getting Te Aka “out to the world” hasn’t happened overnight. It has required learning, refinement and support from people who understand the unique challenges and opportunities of operating in a remote region.

Alongside this, Tourism West Coast continues to work hard to showcase the Coast for what it truly is — wild, untamed and naturally striking. Their wider promotion of the region strengthens every small business that operates here.

Te Aka sits within that bigger story.

It is part of a network of operators who believe in the value of this landscape — its rivers, forests, weather systems and wide horizons. Being recognised and supported at a regional level reinforced that Te Aka belongs here, contributing to a growing and resilient West Coast tourism community.

The forest may feel remote.
But the vision is connected.
