Forest mornings begin with West Roastery coffee and honey harvested right here on the property.

Good coffee isn’t an afterthought at Te Aka.
When you wake in the treehouse — mist sitting in the canopy, birds already moving through the bush — that first cup of the day sets the tone. We knew from the beginning it had to be local, and it had to be done properly.
That’s where West Roastery comes in.
Owned by Ash and Kelly, West Roastery is a small-batch operation grounded in quality and consistency. Beans are ethically sourced and roasted with precision — carefully managed heat curves, timing and airflow to develop balanced, clean flavour profiles.
We now proudly supply their roast in the treehouse.
When you brew your morning coffee at Te Aka, you’re drinking beans roasted right here on the West Coast.
And if you take it with sweetness, that comes from the property too.
Our hives sit within the 23 hectares of native bush that surround the treehouse. The honey is harvested seasonally and reflects the flora of the forest — subtle variations depending on what’s flowering and when. It’s available in the kitchen for guests to use, whether drizzled over yogurt, spread on fresh bread or stirred into your morning coffee.
West Coast roast. Te Aka honey.
It’s a small detail, but it speaks to the wider intention here — keep it local where possible. Grow what we can. Partner with people who care about craft and process.
Ash and Kels are serious about their work, just as Dave has been serious about the build of the treehouse, the boardwalk and the sauna. There’s a shared understanding: do it properly, take your time, let quality speak for itself.
For guests, it means this:
A strong espresso before heading down to Golden Gully.
A slow French press on the deck at sunrise.
Coffee shared on the boardwalk as the sky opens toward the Paparoa maunga.
Just good coffee, local honey and forest air.
A proper West Coast morning.
