In November 2023, the final details came together — from flooring and deck work to the small practical touches that turn a build into a welcoming space.

By November 2023, the main structure was complete.
Dave finished laying the wood flooring, bringing warmth and solidity to the interior. Timber underfoot changes a space — it makes it feel grounded and finished. It marked the shift from construction site to living environment.
Outside, the focus moved to the deck. Lisa sourced the final pieces to complete the space — practical additions and thoughtful touches that made it comfortable and functional without overcomplicating it. The goal was simple: create a place where guests could sit, breathe and take in the forest.
At the same time, there was another critical job to tackle — the driveway.
Getting up the hill had not always been straightforward. In wet weather especially, access could be challenging. It became clear that investing in upgrading the road was essential. If guests were going to arrive relaxed and confident, the approach needed to be safe and manageable for all vehicles.
Improving the driveway was not glamorous work, but it was paramount. It ensured Te Aka was accessible year-round and reinforced the commitment to providing a smooth, stress-free arrival experience.
November became the month of refining.
Testing systems. Walking through the space as future guests. Making adjustments. Ensuring comfort, safety and practicality were all aligned.
By the end of the month, Te Aka wasn’t just built.
It was ready.
